Awake In Hell edition by Helen Downing Literature Fiction eBooks

This book was many things. Philosophical without being overly religious. Emotional without being depressing. Funny without being ridiculous (allowing for the fact that it is fantasy fiction). Enlightening without being extremely preachy.

But most of all, it was an entertaining read. Yes, the strong language will be upsetting for some readers. I'm not a fan of certain profanities; but in this case, it helped the reader to understand the main character's personality, background, and issues.

There is really no way to tell you what this storyline is like without Spoilers. So I will just say that I found it to be a good read. I laughed, teared up a little, and continued to think about it even after it ended. And unlike so many books today, it is a complete book and had a lovely ending.

The writing flowed well and the characters were amazing. A few editing bloopers here and there. A little corny now and then, but it really was a quick and easy light read. The book's cover didn't inspire me, but the story did. I would definitely be willing to read more from this author.

Awake In Hell edition by Helen Downing Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book didn't keep my interest for some reason. I kept putting it down and going back to see if would get better. I just skimmed the pages and skipped a lot of the pages as I couldn't get into it until the later chapters. It is a religious story - about redemption.

Not my cup of tea. but it did have a good religious message.
I bought this book because of a recommendation on a friend's Facebook page, and because I love discovering new authors. This book made me laugh out loud, many times! Helen Downing's concept of Hell is no less than inspired, and I do so love "the closet". It's just about every woman, and man's nightmare, and a very UNIQUE view of what Hell might be like. The ending is a true tear-jerker, but not in a SAD WAY. The book is wonderful as a whole, but the ending is truly spectacular. Share this one with your friends, it's sure to spark some wonderful conversations! I know that I will read this one again and again! MORE PLEASE!!!
The style is conversational. The main character's thoughts moved me quickly through the story of her reminiscences and experiences in hell. Thank heaven for Mr. Deedy and his employment agency. Downing`s beliefs mesh well with mine. I don't want to give it away so will stop here. I enjoyed this book.
Dear Helen I do hope this will help you find your fulfillment I had a hard time getting into the book at first, but even then I was impressed with your imagination. It's a little weird and wonderful. Believe me there were times when I found it scary but I kept hoping that you would eventually find redemption. I loved Mr Deedy and of course Bobby. Like your Mother I am not a fan of the F-bomb. My daughter is trying very hard not to use it in our conversations, she's doing real well. I saw a post recently that was captioned.... You call them swear words, I call them sentence enhancers. Maybe your next book will be less enhanced?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from the natural matter of fact writing to the laid back character of the heroine Louise. Louise's description of hell and its people is spot on and interesting. The lessons that she learns and the people she meets are interesting and pack a punch and make you think. I don't want to spoil the book for would be readers, but I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and a sense of humor
I didn't have any expectations when I started this book. I bought this just because it was free. In the end, I couldn't be more happier that I took the time to read this book because it was perfect. It was a beautiful story about life, death and forgiving. It made me and laugh and it made me cry and it made me truly feel for the character. I had expectations and hopes for Louise, but in the end, her story turned out to be quite different but I couldn't be more happy for her and I truly hope that the afterlife is at least somewhat close to the ending of this book because it would be beautiful.
Helen creates a fantastical tale of Louise Patterson, a self proclaimed "party slut" who in her mid 40's, dies of breast cancer. There is no white light or pearly gates in her future as she actually wakes up in Hell. Now, fired from her job as an internet help desk tech for being "helpful", Louise has to find another job and quick. See, even in hell we cannot escape work.

When a small note on the coffee shop bulletin board proclaims "Second Chance Temp Agency", Louise is intrigued. When a magically appearing phone starts ringing in her closet sized apartment the next morning, she has no idea the rollercoaster she is about to jump on.

Hilarity ensues as Louise tries to find her way in the temp jobs provided by Mr. Deedy at Second Chance Temp Agency. All along she learns more about herself and the holes in her memory get filled in with memories she had forgotten to take with her in death.

Come along for the ride and see just what Louise gets up to as she is "Awake in Hell".
